Prince Rahim Aga Khan inaugurates new Software Technology Park, Nasirabad-Hunza

Hunza: Through partnership between Special Communications Organisation (SCO) and Aga Khan Foundation, Pakistan (AKF, P), new Software Technology Park in Nasirabad, Hunza will support sustainable development of Gilgit-Baltistan by providing uninterrupted power supply, high-speed internet and co-working space for small and growing start-ups, freelancers and chambers of commerce.

Nasirabad Software Technology Park will act as central resource for hub and spokes model linking other IT facilities in more remote areas of region. This will enhance access to distance learning, entrepreneurship and career counselling, and digital skills development, while catalysing freelance business opportunities. Director General of Special Communications Organisation Major General Umar Ahmad Shah, Director of Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development and Chairman of Habib Bank Limited Sultan Ali Allana. President of Ismaili Council for Pakistan Nizar Mewawalla and Chief Executive Officer of AKF, P, Akhtar Iqbal were present.  Sultan Ali Allana expressed his optimism that new Software Technology Park will strengthen economy of region. This will provide range of opportunities nationally and internationally, foster innovation, facilitate creation of new business networks, and drive economic growth in region.”Major General Umar Ahmad said, “SCO Vision 2025 focuses on youth empowerment through provision of sustained IT environment. We are committed to rapidly expanding IT and Free-Lancing Hubs across Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as Gilgit Baltistan.”CEO of AKF Pakistan said, “Gilgit Baltistan has great potential to become hub for software companies in Pakistan. It will attract national and international tech companies and digital nomads who can have significant beneficial impact on economy of country.”
