President Zardari meets US envoy, calls for enhancing bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari met US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome and underlined need to enhance trade and investment relations with United States, besides exploring collaborative opportunities in diverse sectors.
He said that American enterprises should be encouraged to invest in Pakistan Stock Exchange as well as bring innovative business ideas to country’s economy. During meeting, President said that Pakistan had enjoyed long-standing and broad-based relationship with USA spanning over seven decades, which needed to be further strengthened.
He said that top priority of Pakistan was to put its economy on right track and overcome economic and security challenges. He highlighted that climate change was global issue and Pakistan was among countries most vulnerable to its adverse impacts.
President Zardari said that Pakistan wanted to improve its agricultural sector by adopting modern irrigation techniques to conserve water and reduce reliance on flood irrigation.
Donald Blome said that Pakistan and US could enhance bilateral collaboration in fields of trade and investment, climate change, renewable energy, agriculture and security.
He informed that US had completed Sindh Basic Education Programme to build climate-resilient schools to strengthen Pakistan’s education sector.
Acting US Mission spokesperson Thomas Montgomery underscored significance of meeting in statement, emphasising shared interests and numerous opportunities for collaboration between United States and Pakistan.
Montgomery highlighted importance of US-Pakistan Green Alliance framework as avenues for advancing mutual objectives and strengthening bilateral partnership.
