President vows for cementing multisphere ties with Maldives

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi called for need to further cement bilateral ties between Pakistan and Maldives in all fields of mutual interest, especially in education, health and tourism sectors.
Talking to Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to Maldives, Vice Admiral (retd) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani here, he advised envoy-designate to especially focus on establishing strategic ties with Maldives in sectors such as trade, business and investment and people-to-people contacts. He called for bilateral cooperation in health, education, human resource development as well as in fields of defence, climate change and tourism. He highlighted potential of cooperation in tourism industry between two countries as Maldives is world-class tourism destination and Pakistan could benefit from its expertise.
He said that Pakistan could offer distance learning and hybrid learning as well as education expertise of Allama Iqbal Open University and Virtual University of Pakistan for imparting competitive and high-quality education in various educational disciplines to Maldivian students.
President Alvi expressed his satisfaction over existing cordial relations and hoped that newly appointed envoy would effectively utilise all available diplomatic mechanisms, including Bilateral Political Consultations, Joint Economic Commission and Joint Business Councils to increase bilateral engagements as well as cooperation within framework of SARRC, OIC, UN and Commonwealth.
President also asked envoy to convey his greetings and best wishes to President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
