President urges Pakistani diaspora to create linkages for transfer of technology, expertise

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi called upon Pakistani diasporas in North America and Europe to create linkages with relevant institutions, departments and country’s private sector for transfer of technology, expertise and intellectual capital to catalyse Pakistan’s progress and development.
Talking to President of Pakistani Descent Physician Society Dr Asif Syed, Alvi emphasised linkages between institutions of higher learning and institution of research and development in North America and Europe with those of Pakistan involved in research and development for transfer of knowledge and technology and setting up of relevant infrastructure.
He appreciated idea of setting up strategic reserve in Pakistan of essential commodities, which may include relief goods needed to cater for any manmade or natural calamities. Strategic reserve of essential medicines are also essential which are needed for victims of manmade and natural calamities, he added.
President appreciated PPS for their advocacy efforts related to training medical graduates of Pakistan in USA and providing alternate pathways to physicians who were unable to get residency slot.
Dr Asif Syed stated that PPS is medical non-profit organisation and part of APPNA with member base of 600 plus physicians from Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Focus of PPS is to support and develop as grassroots-level organisation facilitating healthcare services, community outreach, policy, advocacy and legislation in USA and in Pakistan.
Meanwhile talking to Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Italy Ali Javed here President appreciated idea of establishing manufacturing units by Pakistani diasporas in industrial-free zone of Italy for manufacturing and exporting Pakistani goods and products in Italy and rest of Europe. He said avenues for exports of human intellect, knowledge and skills online to Italy by our IT professionals and related fields needed to be explored.
He advised Ambassador-designate to keep close linkages with chambers of commerce in Pakistan and major industrial and manufacturing entities of Pakistan and explore possibility of joint ventures with Italian counterparts.
President said that fairly large number of Pakistanis (approximately 200,000) were living in Italy and contributing towards socio-economic development of country and urged that welfare of these Pakistanis should be most priority.
