ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has said Constitution of Pakistan is being abrogated on pretext of seeking date for elections, so he had to write letter.
In an interview, Alvi said instead of finding loopholes in Constitution it should be respected, advising government not to create deadlock in conducting elections while setting provisions of Constitution aside.
He said it appeared that country currently has not coalition government but technocrat setup that is getting some support from unknown quarters.
In response to question, Alvi said PTI Chairman Imran Khan should be questioned about extension of retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa, adding he [Alvi] had no discussion with sitting Army Chief about Imran Khan's letters. PTI Chief also didn't discuss with him allegations against Asif Ali Zardari.
Alvi cautioned that country's situation would worsen with arrest of Imran Khan. "I cannot take any action against governors on issue of delay in election."
President Alvi wrote second letter to Chief Election Commissioner for consultation on election while expressing his displeasure with Election Commission for not responding to letter.
