Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi commenced his three-day official visit to Pakistan by arriving in Islamabad on Monday, accompanied by his spouse, a delegation of cabinet members, and senior officials.
Upon arrival at the Islamabad airport, Raisi was greeted by Housing Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu, representing the warm welcome extended by Pakistan.
Shortly thereafter, the Iranian president proceeded to the Prime Minister’s House, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed him and a guard of honor was presented in his honor. As part of Earth Day observance, Raisi and PM Shehbaz planted a sapling at the Prime Minister’s House, symbolizing environmental consciousness.
Additionally, the leaders are scheduled to attend a signing ceremony for memorandums of understanding aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors between the two countries. They will also participate in an event marking the naming of a highway in Islamabad as Iran Avenue, along with holding a joint press conference.
During his visit from April 22 to 24, President Raisi is slated to engage in meetings with Pakistan’s prime minister, president, Senate chairman, and National Assembly speaker, focusing on bolstering bilateral relations, trade, and collaboration in energy, agriculture, and other key sectors.
Discussions will also encompass cooperation on regional and global issues, including joint efforts to combat terrorism, as stated by the foreign office.
Sources indicate that President Raisi's agenda includes discussions on bilateral relations, security cooperation, the gas pipeline project, and potential negotiations for free trade agreements.
Furthermore, Pakistan and Iran have agreed to establish a joint special economic zone aimed at fostering economic ties between the two nations.
