President for increasing access of visually impaired to books, education

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi directed to take necessary actions aimed at greater access of visually impaired to books and knowledge. Chairing meeting to review role and performance of National Book Foundation at Aiwan-e-Sadr, he said that intellectual and individual development was possible by promoting culture of book reading in country. He said availability of books and knowledge in braille for visually impaired was welcome move.
During meeting, Managing Director NBF Dr Raja Mazhar Hameed briefed President about role and performance of Foundation. He said National Book Foundation was taking measures for people affected by dyslexia.
Meeting was told that Foundation was preparing books for dyslexic children from class prep to 8th that would be available during academic year 2024-25. It was informed that Foundation’s Braille Press in Karachi was providing books to visually impair for Rs 10 only. Books would help increasing access of visually impaired children to education.
“Foundation would issue books for visually impaired children of class prep to 8th of 431 schools of Islamabad.” It was further informed in meeting that NBF was publishing books in braille on range of topics and it was also ensuring availability of books in Pakistan and abroad. President Alvi appreciated role of Foundation in promoting literacy and book reading culture in country.
