President for allowing women’s entry into Faisal Masjid main hall

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi expressed concern that women were being denied entry into main hall of Faisal Masjid and were confined to offer prayers at an enclosure at first floor. Also, he said, elderly and unwell women were constrained to climb stairs in absence of an elevator.

President gave these remarks while taking note of special report published in some section of press 14th September 14 wherein restrictions on women to offer prayers, poor cleanliness conditions and maintenance and beggary at historic masjid was highlighted.

Dr Alvi mentioned that all over world, women in modest Islamic dress with covered hair were allowed in masajid to offer prayers. He regretted that restrictions had been imposed on women for offering prayers and visiting main hall of Faisal Masjid which has religious and touristic value.

Capital Development Authority in its report submitted to President Secretariat informed that it has initiated actions to ensure cleanliness and to carry out maintenance and rid area of beggars. It was said that after construction of masjid as policy of Dawah Academy, Islamic University only one gallery was reserved for ladies and there was no permission for women to enter in main hall. President desired that administrator of Faisal Masjid may discuss and brief on these issues.
