ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi asked Air University to reconsider case of granting one additional year to its student for completing her degree which as she was unable to complete remaining courses due to suffering from Covid-19.

President expressed displeasure that University did not timely process her case, despite fact that Higher Education Commission’s Policy and University Regulations provided for remedies to resolve such issues by granting extension.

He said that there was no reason for university to deviate from HEC’s policy and recommendations, stating that instead of rectifying its maladministration, University submitted representation before President without realising its implications in respect of public exchequer and wastage of study timeline of its student.

He advised Air University to not let student’s devotion, hard work and money go waste and take measures to help and guide students, especially in case of women.

President gave these directions while deciding upon representation filed by Air University against order of Wafaqi Mohtasib directing it to place Iqra Munir’s case before University Functional Committee and reconsider it for allowing her one more year to complete her BS degree.

As per details, Iqra Munir (complainant) had filed complaint before Wafaqi Mohtasib alleging that she was student of Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology Programme in one of colleges affiliated with Air University. According to her, due to Covid endemic, she could not complete her degree in 2020.

President said that instead of rectifying its maladministration, University wasted time and resources and did not provide any justification to reverse order of Mohtasib. President rejected University’s representation with direction to facilitate complainant in line with provisions of HEC policy and recommendations without further loss of time.
