President calls for greater Pak-US linkages in education, IT, agriculture

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi emphasising greater collaboration with United States in fields of education, agriculture and information technology said both sides needed to explore tremendous potential. In meeting with visiting delegation of California’s State Assembly led by Chris Holden, here at Aiwan-e-Sadr President said that Pakistan and US enjoyed long-standing and broad-based relationship, which needed to be further expanded for mutual benefit of two countries.
He appreciated signing of Sister-State Resolution between Punjab and California on January 9, 2023. He said that Punjab had great potential to attract US investment and businesses that would help amplify trade between two countries. He expressed hope that visit of delegation would further broaden ties between Punjab and California as well as encourage other Assembly members to visit Pakistan.
He underlined need for exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation between universities of two countries and promote more student exchanges. Highlighting importance of cooperation in education sector, President suggested that US universities could provide live lectures to Pakistani students. He highlighted measures taken for social and economic empowerment of women.
He apprised delegation about efforts of Begum Samina Alvi who had been playing significant role in raising awareness about breast cancer in Pakistan. Delegation emphasised need to increase cooperation in agriculture sector, including transfer of technology related to field of agriculture. It called for students and faculty exchange programmes to further boost cooperation in education sector. Delegation urged need to make combined efforts for addressing challenges of climate change. It also informed that there was large diaspora from Punjab in California which had been playing significant role in transport and agriculture sectors.
