LAHORE: Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh of Lahore High Court (LHC) has remarked holding election in 90 days is constitutional requirement and President is bound to give date for holding election in 90 days. He further remarked efforts should be there that elections are held within 90 days.

Petition filed by citizen against notification on new delimitation of constituencies came up for hearing before single bench of LHC led by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh. During hearing of case Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh remarked holding election in 90 days is constitutional requirement. There should be efforts that election takes place within 90 days. I am issuing notice to Election Commission on date of election. If population census had taken place in June then why it was not approved till 2 months. Reply to this question should come.

Counsel for federal government said new delimitation of constituencies within four months is next to impossible. Court inquired President is bound to give date for holding election within 90 days.

Counsel for federal government said delimitation is must after population census. This matter has gone to Supreme Court. Court inquired you should appear in court next after obtaining directives in this connection.

Court while issuing notice to Election Commission, federal government and others adjourned hearing of case till September 6.
