President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities to all political parties in the upcoming general elections, during a meeting with former federal minister and Senator, Muhammad Ali Durrani. The meeting took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
President Alvi stressed that in order to maintain the essence of democracy, it is crucial for democracy to prevail and for people to have the freedom to elect leaders of their choice. He highlighted the need for the upcoming general elections to be conducted in a manner that is free, fair, transparent, and inclusive.
The President underscored that every political party and its leadership should have an equal chance to participate in the electoral process, as this is essential for strengthening democracy in the country. He emphasized the necessity of unity among political, institutional, and stakeholder forces to address the various challenges faced by the nation, including economic difficulties.
President Alvi called for an end to bitterness and the promotion of cooperation and forgiveness among political actors. He emphasized that challenging decisions should have the support and participative ownership of the people.
The President expressed that the forthcoming general elections offer an excellent opportunity to infuse the vibrancy needed for the country's rebuilding process.
He also commended the statements made by various political leaders, highlighting the importance of creating a level playing field for all political parties, as inclusivity is the essence of democracy.
In October, Muhammad Ali Durrani proposed a reconciliation formula among political parties and institutions, suggesting that local body elections should be conducted alongside the general elections to prevent rigging.
Durrani believed that holding local body elections simultaneously with the general polls would ensure fairness. However, he noted that an ordinance would be required to facilitate this.
He stated that many PTI leaders were against confrontational politics and that the party chairman and former prime minister were also in favor of peace and harmony for the prosperity of Pakistan.
Durrani emphasized that no one in the country favored confrontational politics, and everyone desired peace and harmony to benefit Pakistan's prosperity. He stressed that no one would gain an advantage by excluding anyone from the political process.
