Preparing consolidated labour law: Saeed Ghani says at KATI

Karachi: There is need to prepare consolidated labour law for employees and workers in Sindh by eliminating individual laws and inspections of various institutions. Benazir Labour Card will provide health insurance to employees and an education facility for children in any private school on merit will also be provided.
Sindh Labour and HR Minister Saeed Ghani addressing luncheon held at Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) said that Benazir Mazdoor Card will be transferred directly to account and this card will also be used as ATM. He said that we will consult industrialists to eliminate amount of contribution of SESSI according to number of employees and come up with a separate formula so that system can be simplified and employees can get convenience.
He said that when available data of SESSI was verified for Benazir Mazdoor card, 40 percent of cards turned out to be fake. He said money of rupees 6 thousand per child will be transferred directly to each labourer’s Benazir Mazdoor card. Similarly, children of laborers will also be able to get admission to good private schools on merit and expenses will be borne by government.
Insurance is being brought for workers will provide much more coverage than SESSI, while personally consulting doctors has also included treatment of more diseases.
KATI President Faraz-ur-Rahman said that more than 1.5 million employees are working. Due to economic situation of country and rising inflation, working class is facing difficulties.
Complaints have been received from industrialists that SESSI cards are fake, based on which workers get jobs in factories and blackmail industrialists to get their interests.
KITE Limited CEO Zubair Chhaya said that Korangi Industrial area employs 27,000 people and has an export of more than $ 40 million. Labour Department has played an excellent role. Employees in contribution of SESSI do not have facilities. He said that Local Body Department, DMC, KMC, KDA, Water and Sewerage Board, SBCA and other departments work under Sindh government but situation in city is not good.
Standing Committee Chairman Zahid Saeed said that Chief Minister gave 1,050 million rupees to KITE Limited for development of roads, and sewage system of Korangi Industrial area, this money was used for development works for 4 years including causeway.
Senior Vice President Nighat Awan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, Labour Secretary Laeeq Ahmed, former presidents Salman Aslam, Gulzar Feroze, Farhan-ur-Rehman, Masood Naqi, Danish Khan, Sheikh Umar Rehan, Ehtishamuddin, Saleem-uz-Zaman, Deputy Commissioner Korangi Muhammad Ali Zaidi, SSP Korangi Tariq Nawaz, Commissioner SESSI Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro and senior officials were present.
