PPP vows to bring LG institutions under Karachi Mayor

Karachi: Ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party has shown agreement to bring all Local Government (LG) institutions under Karachi mayor. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to approve an empowered and autonomous LG system.
Ruling political party tabled draft LG amendment bill before Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) during fresh round of talks.
According to new LG Bill, Karachi mayor will head Karachi Development Authority, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and Malir Development Authority.
Ruling political party also agreed on returning control of educational institutions and hospitals that came under administration of LG institutions to Karachi mayor. Control of infectious diseases hospital, educational institutions and other relevant civic bodies to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. According to draft bill, Provincial Finance Commission (will be formed within a month after first session of LG institutions, whereas, both political parties have also finalised new formula for PFC Award. Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori also participated in meeting.
Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Sharjeel Memon, Saeed Ghani and other PPP leaders were present in meeting. MQM-P’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farogh Naseem, Faisal Sabzwari and Waseem Akhtar attended talks.
