Islamabad: Senior leadership of Pakistan Peoples’ Party has advised party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari against forming coalition government with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and sitting in opposition.
PPP’s Central Executive Committee meeting was held here under leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, party statement said.
According to statement, participants of meeting expressed their confidence in leadership of party and discussed myriad of topics including general elections and way forward.
PPP announced its decision to engage in consultations with All political parties to facilitate formation of government.
Sources told that majority of committee members proposed to sit in opposition, rather than forming coalition government. Ostensibly, strong coalition government will not be formed, participants suggested.
CEC members were of view that PPP should sit in opposition by respecting mandate of independent candidates-who according to ECP election 2024 results were in lead in National Assembly.
Participants dubbed making PPP’s Prime Minister ‘political loss’, sources claimed, adding that some also proposed to hold talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf instead of PML-N.
Meanwhile, some CEC members suggested to become part of government on getting important positions including premiership.
If Bilawal becomes Prime Ministership and PPP secures important ministries, party can show his ability to deliver, sources quoted meeting participants as saying. CEC will meet today for further delibrations, it added.
