PPP stands ‘dominant’ in second phase of LG polls

Karachi: As results of Local Body (LB) election's second phase in Karachi could not be finalised even past midnight despite polling process ending at 5pm, political parties claimed that rigging was underway in metropolis.
Voting kicked off at 8am and continued uninterrupted, with reports of sporadic clashes. However, several confrontations were reported even after polling process ended.
Parties seemingly did not respond strongly to clashes, however, later on, claims were made that Sindh government and Election Commission of Pakistan were delaying release of results.
Polling was held in seven districts of Karachi division and nine districts of Hyderabad division. Apart from Karachi and Hyderabad city, votes were also cast in Jamshoro, Matiari, Tandu Muhammad Khan, Tandwala Yar, Dadu, Thatta, Sajawal, Badin areas. According to unofficial and incomplete results, Pakistan Peoples' Party is leading by securing 209 seats, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf bagged 14 seats and Jamaat-e-Islami could only secured one seat
As many as 8,876 polling stations, 4,997 in Karachi and 3,879 in Hyderabad divisions were set up with CCTV, where strict security arrangements were made.
Several acts of violence, clashes and setting elections camps on fire were reported in different districts of Sindh.

PPP, PTI and JI are claiming to have edged over their rival parties. Karachi will likely not give majority vote to any party-PPP, PTI, JI as results are split in among these parties, political poll experts opined. PPP claims to have edge over rival parties in terms of seats while PTI also claimed supermacy in seats number. JI is also claiming lead on several seats in city.
In District Central UC 8, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for chairmanship of union council, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman took lead by securing 219 votes followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Abu Bakar with 53 votes.
In District Malir,Gadap, Ibrahim Hyderi PPP candidates got massive win as per unofficial results.
