PPP, PTI support IMF deal as lender holds talks with political parties

Lahore: International Monetary Fund (IMF) representative Esther Perez Ruiz said that lender is in process of meeting representatives from country’s all political parties to secure backing for new stand-by arrangement.
In latest PTI and PPP as political parties assured IMF of their support for standby agreement leading to Staff Level Level Agreement for loan revival programme. In her statement, representative said IMF staff are in process of meeting with representatives of major political parties in Pakistan, including PML-N, PPP and PTI.
Discussions are aimed at seeking assurances of their support for key objectives and policies under new IMF-supported program ahead of approaching national elections, added Esther Perez. PTI leader Hammad Azhar said that IMF team called upon Chairman Imran Khan at his residence. Meeting was attended by IMF country chief Nathan Porter who joined virtually from Washington and Resident Representative Esther Perez who was physically present. Esther Pérez Ruiz, IMF’s Resident Representative in Pakistan, met PPP delegation consisting of Minister Naveed Qamar and Senator Salim Mandviwala.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party assured support for new loan programme in wider national interest and also agreed to implement standby arrangement.
