PPP, PML-N bigwigs meet US, British envoys ahead of polls

Islamabad: In significant encounters ahead of general elections, heavyweights from Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Nawaz Sharif met with US and British envoys.
According to statement, United States Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome called on Bilawal at Zardari House here. Both discussed ways to promote bilateral relations between two countries.
They discussed promoting trade relations between Pakistan and United States.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott in Lahore and discussed matters of mutual interests, according to statement issued by PML-N media cell.
Former PM and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, senior Vice President and Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz Sharif were present.
Nawaz Sharif highlighted robust relationship between Pakistan and Britain, stating that both countries benefit from strong bilateral relations.
He particularly emphasised role of Pakistani diaspora in UK in strengthening friendship between two nations.
“Flourishing of relations in various fields such as trade, investment and other sectors is imperative for progress of Pakistan and Britain,” Nawaz said.
British High Commissioner informed Nawaz about her meetings with various political parties in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
She highlighted importance of upcoming elections scheduled for February 8, stating that they hold significance for future of Pakistan.
Marriott extended her congratulations to supreme leader of PML-N on various legal victories, acknowledging his resilience in face of challenges.
