KARACHI: Marriage of convenience that coalition government at Centre represents is apparently coming to an end ahead of general elections that are slated for October this year.
According to sources, second largest party in ruling coalition, Pakistan Peoples' Party is "Not happy" with government policies and is apparently preparing to part ways. They said PPP wants to cash in on anti-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz sentiments in Punjab, most populous province whose electoral conquest determines who will rule country.
Sources said PPP may announce leaving coalition after passage of budget for 2023-24. In this regard, PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has started consulting with party leaders.
Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh said during provincial assembly session that federal government has increased allocations for people affected by last year's flood but PPP Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh government are still not satisfied. "Centre must provide more funds for flood affected areas of Sindh," he said.
Addressing rally in Swat on June 17, Bilawal who serves as foreign minister in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Cabinet accused his own government of totally ignoring provinces that bore brunt of last year's devastating floods in proposed budget.
