‘Power utilities should exempt Irrigation deptt from load shedding’

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh directed HESCO and SEPCO officials to exempt irrigation department’s installations/pumping stations from load shedding and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Chairing a high-level meeting with officials of Hyderabad Electric Supply Corporation (HESCO) and Sukkur Electric Supply Corporation (SEPCO) he instructed that in case of burning or damage of transformer, HESCO, SEPCO officials should replace or repair transformer immediately and not give any opportunity to consumers to complain. Instructions were given to improve drainage and scarp feeders and to further improve Khairpur Nathan Shah grid which was damaged in recent floods and which has been repaired.
A briefing was given by officers about various schemes in area of HESCO and SEPCO, including Village Electrification Programme. Imtiaz Shaikh directed officers present in meeting to install new transformers in their respective areas where new transformers were required to improve power supply.
He directed that better efficiency transformers should be installed in all rural areas to keep irrigation department facilities, especially pumping stations active at all times and such places should be exempted from load shedding so that pumping stations can remain active without interruption. He directed that in case of burning or damage transformers should be changed in shortest possible time for quick redressal of complaints of suspension of power supply for several days.
He said that Sindh government is trying to provide necessities of life to people in all areas of province. HESCO, SEPCO officials should start preparing for effective measures to deal with issues arising in coming season and inform Energy Department in writing. Energy Secretary Abubakar Madani, Chairman HESCO Board Jameel Gul Sheikh, Chairman SEPCO Board Agha Lal Bakhsh Khan, Chief Executive Officer HESCO Muhammad Khan Soho, Chief Executive Officer SEPCO Saeed Ahmed Dawich participated in meeting.
