ISLAMABAD: K-Electric (KE) filed an application with National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to lower power tariff on account of fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for month of April 2023.

According to K-Electric spokesperson, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority conducted hearing regarding power tariff as result of hearing, it has been decided that electricity rates for KE consumers will be reduced by 0.5 paisa per unit. This reduction in electricity rates is expected to provide a total of Rs 72 million financial relief to KE consumers. However, reduction in power tariff will not apply to KE’s lifeline consumers.

According to NEPRA, KE generated power in April at cost of Rs 23.03 per unit, while cost of electricity received from government remained at Rs 10.47 per unit. Earlier this year, NEPRA announced to lower power tariff by Rs 10.80 per unit for K-Electric consumers.

According to notification issued by NEPRA, K-Electric power tariff was reduced due to fuel cost adjustments (FCAs) in month of December. K-Electric has sought tariff reduction of Rs 10.26 per unit on account of fuel charges adjustment from NEPRA.

Notification said that relief granted will not be applicable to lifeline customers, consumers up to 300 units, Agricultural Consumers and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, meanwhile, relief will only be applicable for one month.
