Political stability, persistent policies imperative for growth: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal underscored need for political stability and continuity of economic policies to put Pakistan on sustained growth trajectory and attain social prosperity.

Addressing Pakistan Development Summit, he said, “Pakistan is blessed with all natural resources and by mobilising these resources, we can take country on path of rapid economic growth and social development within ten-year time period.”

Theme of event was ‘5Es Framework Road map to Trillion Dollar Economy by 2035,’ which aimed to bring together stakeholders from industry, academia and sectoral professionals to shape future of Pakistan’s economic growth. About nine key thematic sessions under topic of 5EsFramework would gather expert feedback and prepare comprehensive plan of action to attain sustainable economic development and social prosperity. He stressed need to form an economic charter, besides maintaining continuity of these economic policies to turn around national economy. He said that peace and political stability in country were other prerequisite elements to put country on fast track to economic uplift. He called for mobilising domestic resources to meet financial requirements and reducing reliance on borrowing. He stressed need to strengthen foreign exchange reserve of country to ensure timely payments of all international commitments. Addressing event, Secretary Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Owais Samra said that Pakistan was facing economic difficulties, adding that government was following comprehensive policy to revive economy.
