Police says driver involved in Thatta accident arrested

KARACHI: Karachi police arrested driver of truck involved in road accident in Thatta, leading to death of nine Karachi picnickers. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Adil Chandio, driver Muhammad Raees had learning driving license. He said that accident occurred due to negligence of truck driver.
SSP Chandio shared that all nine people were friends belonging to same locality. Truck driver involved in incident had fled scene after accident. At least nine picnickers were killed when vehicle they were travelling in rammed into truck on Hyderabad-Thatta Road near Chilya.
According to rescue sources, incident occurred near Thatta’s Chilya area when van collided with truck, resulting in death of nine people. Eight people died on spot while another succumbed to his injuries at hospital. All of passengers who lost their lives were residents of Karachi and were en route to Kenjhar Lake for picnic, said police.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of accident and ordered DC Thatta to ensure medical facilities to injured.
