PM urges swift resolution of Meta's operational issues

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed concerned authorities to resolve all issues regarding Meta's operations in Pakistan. Five-member delegation from META, led by Vice President for Asia Pacific Simon Milner met with PM Shehbaz Sharif to explore potential collaboration in Pakistan's IT and digital media sectors.
Meeting was attended by Shaza Fatima, Jahanzeb Khan, Tania Odros and senior government officials. During meeting, PM emphasised immense potential within these sectors and highlighted that, for first time in country's history, record budget has been allocated for IT development.
During meeting, PM underscored importance of utilising technical expertise in IT and artificial intelligence for national progress. He issued directives to resolve operational issues related to META in Pakistan, ensuring smoother cooperation moving forward.
META delegation briefed PM on its services in Pakistan and broader Asia Pacific region, noting that Pakistan recently hosted first AI competition in region.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to joint efforts in advancing digital media and AI initiatives.
Meanwhile, Cabinet approved establishment of Prime Minister’s Skills Development Company to implement technical and vocational training programmes, PM House reported.
