PM Shehbaz to oversee process of 'downsizing, rightsizing' in govt sector

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that will personally oversee process of downsising and rightsising in government sector and will not tolerate any delaying tactics in this regard.

Addressing Cabinet, PM said he will not allow any delay on follow-ups from relevant ministries on meetings held and agreements reached during Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. He called for close coordination between federal and provincial governments to ensure peace and security during Muharram. He directed Interior Ministry to coordinate security plan with provinces during Muharram. PM emphasised need for promoting national unity and harmony and underlined need for deep structural reforms in order to take country in right direction. While talking about government’s announcement of energy subsidy package for low-income households, he said that Rs 50 billion have been deducted from development budget to provide relief to consumers using upto 200 units for three months. “During this period, I want to have massive fiscal space through extra measures,” he added. Meanwhile, PM said directions issued to Finance Ministry to chalk out business model and measures to stop corrupt practices at Karachi Port are in process of being implemented.

Addressing National Assembly, he reiterating that government had not yet made any decision regarding export of wheat. Responding to point of order raised by parliamentarian, Prime Minister emphasized transparency in agricultural policies amidst concerns over past controversies involving sugar and wheat sectors. "It is important to clarify that no decision has been made for export of wheat," Shehbaz Sharif stated, underscoring need for accountability in agricultural management. He referenced previous instances where wheat and sugar were allegedly exported and later re-imported at considerable financial cost, raising questions about prudent utilization of national resources.
