PM Shehbaz stresses utlilisation of Balochistan’s minerals

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed importance of proper planning for communication infrastructure, particularly railway line to fully utilise minerals and other resources in Balochistan
Presiding over meeting on mines and minerals of Balochistan with particular reference to Reqo Dik Project, PM Shehbaz ordered to upgrade road network at earliest to connect Reqo Dik project with Gwadar by road.
Shehbaz Sharif vowed to ensure security of those working on multibillion-dollar Reko Diq gold and copper mining project.
He said it is Game changer project. Delegation of Barrick Gold company led by its Chief Executive Officer Mark Bristow took part in meeting through video link. PM directed to remove project-related roadblocks and consult with all government players.
He promised security for those working on project as well as logistics and transportation from Reqo Dik to Port, in regard to protection and safety of labourers connected with project.
PM Shehbaz directed to expedite completion of under-construction roads. He said strategy should be evolved regarding feasibility of railway network for project.
In comparison to Bin Qasim Port, he said Reqo Dik railway project would guarantee quick and simple access in addition to shorter distance. He said that new railway line will greatly benefit mineral-rich Chaghai district and contribute in growth of mining industry.
Prime Minister was informed Reqo Dik project’s viability would be done by end of this year. It was informed 6,000 containers will be transported to Port every month from Reqo Dik.
Meanwhile, President and Chief Executive Mark Bristow said that Pakistan Revolutionary Reko Diq project would change fate of Balochistan by reshaping local economy.
In an interview with private news channel, he stated that an estimated $ 10 billion would be invested during next eight to nine years, which would boost mining industry and local economy.
He underscored company’s commitment to sustainable development, job creation and community empowerment. Bristow said that project is on track and teams are working really well.
