ISLAMABAD: Uncertainties, chaos and fabricated reports surrounding key appointments in military finally takes last breath after President Arif Alvi signed summary and approved appointment of Lieutenant General Asim Munir as next Chief of Army staff and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

"President promoted Lieutenant General Syed Asim Munir HI(M) to rank of General with immediate effect and appointed him as Chief of Army Staff with effect from November 29, 2022, and also promoted Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza HI(M) to rank of General with immediate effect and appointed him as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee with effect from November 27, 2022. " said a statement issued by President's Secretariat.

It added that promotions and appointments have been made under Article 243(4) (a) and (b) and Article 48(1) of Constitution. Both articles are to be read with Sections 8-A and 8-D of Pakistan Army Act 1952.

Both Gen Munir and General Mirza met PM Shehbaz  Sharif and President Arif Alvi, separately, after confirmation of their appointment as new Chief of Army Staff and Joint Chief of Staff Committee.

A meeting between President Dr Arif Ali and newly appointed Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr minutes after President Arif Alvi signed summary and approved appointment of Lieutenant General Asim Munir as next Chief of Army Staff and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

Nominated Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir , Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza separately called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Prime Minister congratulated both top military heads and expressed his good wishes for their new responsibilities.

Prime Minister hoped that under their leadership, armed forces will amicably deal with challenges of national security and continue to play important role in complete elimination of menace of terrorism from country.
