ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed federal ministers to attend parliamentary proceedings after taking notice of their repeated absenteeism.
In a letter issued to the ministers, the Prime Minister highlighted that their absence was detrimental to the principles of accountability and transparency. He stressed that such behavior could erode public trust in democratic institutions and the governance system.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed his dissatisfaction with the ministers delegating their constitutional duties to subordinates, describing it as an unacceptable approach that shows indifference to their responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of ministers being present in parliamentary sessions to fulfill their roles effectively.
The Prime Minister instructed the ministers to prioritize attending parliamentary sessions and ensure their participation in official matters within the National Assembly. Furthermore, he specifically prohibited participation in other meetings during question hours and parliamentary debates, ensuring that their focus remains on the legislative proceedings.
This move is part of the government's broader efforts to reinforce accountability and improve the functioning of democratic institutions. The Prime Minister's directive comes at a time when there is increasing pressure on the government to enhance its responsiveness to the issues raised in parliament.
