PM seeks to counter ‘fake news menace’ via mainstream media

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that role of mainstream media is pivotal in countering fake news which is “Major challenge” facing country.
Speaking to delegation of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), including Shakeel Masood, Mian Amir Mahmood and Sultan Lakhani PM Shehbaz urged electronic media to support government’s efforts for development and prosperity of country.
Terming media fourth pillar of state, he said electronic media’s role is crucial in development and progress of society as well in an ideological training of people. He said protection of media persons is responsibility of state.
He expressed hope that media, through objective reporting, would continue playing its role for strengthening and stabilising democracy in country.
Talking about his government’s economic priorities, he informed delegation that efforts are afoot to ensure privatisation of loss-making state-owned enterprises, institutional reforms, internal and external investment and austerity.
Shehbaz Sharif said privatisation of loss-making state-owned entities, institutional reforms, domestic and foreign investment and austerity were priorities of incumbent government. He said services of international experts were being hired for complete digitalisation of Federal Board of Revenue.
PM Shebbaz highlighted that Cabinet has voluntarily foregone salary and other perks in country’s interest. He said services of international experts are being hired to fully digititalise Federal Board of Revenue.
Premier said leading taxpayers, exporters and women entrepreneurs will be acknowledged at government level.
