PM praises record increase in remittances, reflecting trust of overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over significant economic improvements, including a record increase in remittances and a reduction in the weekly inflation rate to 3.57%.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the PM credited the surge in remittances to the continued trust and support of overseas Pakistanis, even in the face of a civil disobedience call from a political party.Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of political stability for the country’s economic development.
He referred to a meeting he chaired the previous day on law and order, highlighting the government’s firm stance against those who attempted to disrupt the peace in the federal capital. He assured that while lawbreakers would face consequences, innocent individuals would not be harmed.
In his address, the PM also mentioned that Azerbaijan has committed to investing $2 billion in Pakistan.
He noted that during a meeting with the Azerbaijani ambassador, the importance of identifying projects and preparing feasibility studies was discussed to ensure the smooth progress of these agreements.
On international relations, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s neutral stance regarding the situation in Syria.
He shared that the government had devised a mechanism for the safe evacuation of approximately 500 to 600 Pakistani citizens from Syria, in collaboration with the Lebanese government.
The operation will be carried out via Beirut, following consultations with the Lebanese prime minister. The PM’s remarks underscored Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its economy and safeguard the welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad.
