ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed power distribution companies to revise electricity bills of up to 200 units within 24 hours, adjusting relief under fuel adjustment charge (FAC) announced by government.

Chairing a high-level meeting to address issues faced by power consumers he announced constitution of a committee on issue. “Staffers of distribution companies should work round clock to ensure revision of electricity bills,” he said. PM instructed concerned authorities to cancel leaves of all staffers and present him a compliance report immediately and also ensure execution of relief measures announced by government.

“Banks should also be directed to remain open in coming days to enable consumers to pay their revised electricity bills,” he added. Meeting was told that implementation of relief package announced by PM should be ensured. Electricity bills of around 16.6 million are being corrected to provide relief under fuel price adjustment.  “I took notice of inflated electricity bills and on instructions of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif we have decided to waive additional charges from electricity bills of 17 million consumers out of a total 30 million,” premier said.

He directed an inquiry over levy of increased Sales Tax ratio to shopkeepers and retailers in electricity bills other than agreed one.
