PM meets King Charles III, expresses sorrow over Queen Elizabeth II’s demise

LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with King Charles III during reception hosted by king for foreign dignitaries in London, visiting to attend state funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II. Extending condolences over passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, premier observed that late monarch was a source of inspiration and strength for generations of Commonwealth citizens.

PM Shehbaz recalled that people of Pakistan had fond memories of late queen’s two visits to country. “Bond of affection between Royal family and Pakistani nation had only strengthened with time,” he added.

On behalf of people and government of Pakistan, prime minister conveyed best wishes to King Charles III on his accession to throne and expressed hope that he would carry on legacy of his mother in further strengthening friendship among Commonwealth nations.

He maintained that people of Pakistan held king in high esteem and looked forward to welcoming him to country at earliest opportunity. Shehbaz also thanked British monarch for Royal family’s expression of sympathy and support in wake of unprecedented floods.

“Appeal for help and response from both British government and public was deeply appreciated in Pakistan,” he said.
