PM kicks off three-day nationwide eradication drive, vows to eliminate polio

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated three-day nationwide polio eradication drive by administering polio drops to children. In brief ceremony held here, Prime Minister said that nationwide drive was being started to overcome resurfacing of polio cases. He said that floods in summer season disrupted national drive, but despite all those difficulties, polio workers carried out onus with their hard work and commitment.
He observed that unfortunately, Pakistan was among few countries where polio cases resurfaced. Few years back, during government of Nawaz Sharif, these cases were completely eradicated, he added. He lauded those frontline workers and law enforcement agencies personnel who had laid down their lives for achieving objective and embraced shahadat. He said that their sacrifices would always be remembered. He said that during telephonic conversation, Bill Gates expressed his commitment to support government’s efforts to eliminate disease.
He expressed his gratitude to WHO, stakeholders, related departments, law enforcement personnel and daughters of nation for their continuing efforts and commitments.
