ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul-Haq Kakar directed authorities concerned to submit detailed plan regarding restructuring of PIA to Economic Coordination Committee at earliest.

He issued these directives chairing high level meeting on Pakistan International Airlines here. During meeting, he directed PIA administration and aviation division to work day and night to improve performance of national flag carrier.

PM Kakar was given detailed briefing on PIA. Meeting was informed that recent amendment in PIA Act 2016 has paved way for restructuring of national flag carrier.

He said that measures should be taken to further improve air connectivity of remote areas with other cities of country.

Recently, Federal Board of Revenue froze accounts of national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines over non-payment of more than Rs 8 billion in taxes.

FBR said PIA promised to pay Rs 2 billion in dues under Federal Excise Duty in August, but it failed to keep its promise.

Meanwhie, chairing high-level meeting to review performance of Petroleum Division, he said road infrastructure needs to be improved to access natural resources.

He directed to take strict measures against illegal mining. He instructed to complete all legal requirements at earliest for appointment of head of Oil and Gas Development Authority.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar was given detailed briefing regarding performance of Petroleum Division. Meeting was informed that apart from exploring more natural resources in country, Petroleum Division is working on programme to increase oil and gas production in country.
