LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed speedy completion of solar and wind energy projects. Chairing meeting on renewable energy, he said it was priority of government to encourage production of electricity through solar and wind energy sources.

Renewable sources would produce low-cost and environment-friendly electricity, he added. He pointed out that last government did not complete solar and wind energy projects started by previous government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. PM said that 220 million people of Pakistan suffered due to criminal negligence and incompetency of last government. “Work on solar power projects of 10,000 megawatts is continuing at fast pace,” he added.

Solar power projects would help in saving precious foreign exchange being spent on import of expensive fuel, he remarked.

He said that relevant institutions should immediately present strategy for fully benefitting from available solar and wind resources in country. He assured that all obstacles in way of renewable energy projects would be removed.

Participants of meeting were informed in detail about present wind and solar energy resources in country, pace of work on ongoing projects and delayed projects.

Besides current 10,000 megawatts renewal energy projects, it was told that solar and wind power projects of 6,000 megawatts were also considered to produce environment-friendly and low-cost energy.

Ministers Ishaq Dar, Khurram Dastgir, Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistant to PM Jehanzeb Khan, Adviser Ahad Cheema and concerned officials attended meeting.
