PM, COAS Bajwa discuss flood situation, relief activities

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed with Chief of Army Staff Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) General Akhtar Nawaz flood situation and rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations in flood-affected areas. During telephonic conversation, prime minister and chief of Army staff discussed situation of flood affectees and relief and rehabilitation operations in flood-hit areas, especially in Sindh province.

He stressed upon acceleration of rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. Army Chief apprised prime minister of Army’s full cooperation in rescue and relief operations in Sindh province.

PM directed for provision of helicopters in province as road and bridges had been damaged in province. He observed that helicopters would be helpful in rescue and relief operations since linking roads between Sindh and Balochistan provinces had been eroded. He appreciated cooperation and passion of Pakistan Army in rescue and relief operations. General Bajwa also informed that he had issued special direction to Commander Southern Command over relief activities in Balochistan.

Chairman NDMA apprised prime minister of latest situation of rainfall and floods in Sindh and also about cooperation extended during ongoing rescue and relief operations in two provinces and measures taken so far.
