Pillion riding banned in Karachi on Dec 31-Jan 1

Karachi: Commissioner Karachi Iqbal Memon imposed ban on pillion riding across city for two days. According to notification issued by Office of Commissioner decision has been taken on recommendation of DIG-South Karachi. In letter written to Commissioner on December 20, DIG had said that New Year’s Eve was celebrated in different areas of Karachi with full enthusiasm. “Throughout night, large number of youngsters from different areas of city will move to Sea View on motorcycles and cars, which create traffic jams and inconvenience to residents of area.”
He, therefore, requested that ban under section 144 of Criminal Code of Procedure on carrying/display of arms, aerial firing, fire crackers and pillion riding of motorcycles/scooters should be imposed to safeguard lives of citizens.
Subsequently, in notification Commissioner said, “Complete ban has been imposed on aerial firing, firecrackers and pillion riding of motorcycles/scooters in Karachi division for period of two days from Dec ember31, 2022 to January 1, 2023 with immediate effect.”
