PIA clarifies over pilots’ plan to boycott flights

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) issued clarification over boycott of flights by pilots “As protest” against non-payment of their pending salaries. According to national-flag carrier spokesperson, airline is facing financial crisis due to ongoing economic situation of country, adding that salaries had been paid to officers of PIA from pay scale 1 to 4, while remaining salaries of group 5 to 10 officers would be disbursed soon.
Spokesperson strongly rebutted media news regarding suspension of flight operations by pilots due to non-payment of salaries. Clarification comes day after it emerged that pilots of national-flag carrier - Pakistan International Airline are considering boycott of flights “As protest” against non-payment of their pending salaries. According to sources, officers of PIA from pay scale 5 to 10 including pilots have, reportedly not received their salaries yet because of funds shortage. Reports claimed that pilots of PIA were disappointed due to ‘prolonged delay’ in payment of their pending salaries even during month of Ramadhan.
In midst of financial crisis, Federal Board of Revenue deducted Rs 1.4 billion from Pakistan International Airline accounts and Rs 0.3 billion were submitted by Finance Ministry through PIA administration.
