PIA administration declared responsible for two ATR Aircraft accidents

KARACHI: In an audit report, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) administration has been declared responsible for accidents of two ATR aircraft. Negligence of PIA administration was traced in accidents of two ATR planes. Airline bore financial loss of over Rs 2,000 million following aircraft accidents at Gilgit Airport.

Negligence of PIA administration was mentioned in audit report 2021-22 compiled by Auditor General. ATR accidents gave financial dent to national flag carrier up to Rs 2,796 million. An ATR plane met an accident at Karachi airport on November 24, 2018, causing financial loss of Rs 10.14 million to airline. Moreover, airline bore over Rs 10.14 loss after plane accident at Gilgit Airport on July 20. According to audit report, different reasons were mentioned for plane accidents in investigation report compiled by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.

Auditors said that aviation authority mentioned reasons for accidents due to malfunctioning technical equipment required for maintenance, lack of professionalism in airline’s maintenance crew, failure in implementation of SOPs, flawed decisions and role of first officer.
