PHC, LAS collaborate to empower Hindu community

Karachi: Delegation of Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) led by Dr Ramesh Kumar Vanakwani visited to Sindh Legal Advisory Call Centre (SLACC) here. PHC representatives Mangla Sharma, Sunena Shantilal, Komal Khatri were with Dr Kumar. Purpose of visit was to discuss official formation of working relationship in form of memorandum of understanding to be signed soon between both organisations.
Legal Aid Society (LAS) team including Justice (retd) Khilji Arif Hussain, Haya Emaan Zahid, Rukhsana Parveen and Zahra Salman welcomed distinguished guests at centre.
During meeting, Ramesh Kumar informed LAS team about activities of PHC. He said that council widely facilitates number of people from community who arrives on daily basis with their various disputes having firm belief in acquiring solutions from PHC.
Council representatives explained issues faced by members of Hindu community, particularly legal challenges such as forced conversions, NADRA-related issues and structural discrimination. They highlighted PHC mandate and efforts to support community, including legal assistance and financial support for initiatives like mass marriage ceremonies named Jeevan Ka Sathi.
“Council wishes to refer legal cases from Hindu community to Legal Aid Society for assistance,” said Vanakwani. On other side, Haya Zahid said that LAS is continuously striving to work with partners to provide legal assistance to minorities. Our collaboration with stakeholders brings effective strategies to enhance case referral, advocacy for policy reforms and implementation of impactful measures to uplift and improve condition of minorities. Rukhsana Parveen informed delegation by presentation of SLACC and LAS, specifically focusing on scope of religious minority project.
