PHC decision: 'bat' symbol designated to PTI

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday reinstated the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI) right to use the bat as its election symbol, overturning the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) earlier order that had revoked the symbol from PTI.

Following PTI's petitions contesting the ECP's rejection of their intra-party elections and the withdrawal of the bat symbol, the court swiftly delivered its verdict. Deeming the ECP's actions unconstitutional, the PHC directed the electoral body to restore PTI's iconic 'bat' symbol and publish the certificate of their internal elections on its website.

In a bench led by Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Syed Arshad Ali, the court ruled in favor of PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali and six other leaders, who had challenged the ECP's decision, declaring it illegal and lacking jurisdiction.

During proceedings, Justice Ijaz Anwar assured PTI's counsel, Barrister Ali Zafar, of a prompt resolution, expressing determination to conclude the case that day.

Barrister Zafar highlighted that it marked the final day for the appellate tribunals to decide on the appeals regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers.
