ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) rejected inquiry commission proposed by government to investigate killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.
Talking to a TV channel, PFUJ representative Lala Asad Pathan rejected inquiry commission proposed by government to investigate killing of Arshad Sharif. Lala Asad noted that ruling coalition was levelling allegations against ARY News since it came into power. “How can anyone expect a transparent investigation, if allegations are levelled before commission is formed,” he added. Terming inquiry commission ‘weak’, PFUJ representative said that no commission under influence of incumbent ministers would be accepted. He called for constituting an independent probe commission under chairmanship of United Nations Human Rights Committee. “Judges from Supreme Court and PFUJ representatives should be part of commission,” he added.
Lala Asad also supported demand of President and CEO ARY Digital Network Salman Iqbal for an independent investigation overseen by UN Human Rights Office into Sharif’s killing. He questioned government’s decision to register treason cases against Arshad Sharif. Federal government approved constitution of a three-member inquiry commission headed by a retired judge of Lahore High Court to probe into senior journalist Arshad Sharif’s killing.
