Petrol price likely to slide down by Rs9.62/litre

KARACHI: Price of mogas is likely to drop from Rs 235.98 per litre to Rs 226.36 after a cut of Rs 9,62 per litre on September 16 for next fortnight. However, a slight increase of Rs 3.04 per litre is expected in price of diesel, taking rate up from Rs 247.26 per litre to Rs 250.30 for said duration.

Industrial sources said that average Platts price for motor spirit also plunged by Rs 9.55 to Rs 92.28 from Rs 101.83 for duration from September 1-15. However, exchange rate remained on higher side if compared with exchange rate registered during August 16-31. And with unchanged Customs Duty at Rs 15.39 per litre, cost of one-litre petrol in refinery slid by Rs 7.84 per litre to Rs 166.76 from Rs 174.61 per litre.

However, ex-refinery price of one-litre petrol has been estimated to decrease by Rs 9.62 per litre to Rs 173.43 from Rs 183.04 per litre. However, likely increase in imposition of Customs Duty on HSD by Rs 3.37 to Rs 22.11 per litre from Rs 18.74 will increase cost of one-litre diesel in a refinery by Rs 1.57 per litre to Rs 224.57 from Rs 223 per litre. And after PSO exchange adjustment, ex-refinery price of diesel is estimated to increase by Rs 3.04 per litre to Rs 231.90 from earlier Rs 228.87 per litre. However, for end consumers, distribution margin for diesel and petrol stands at Rs 3.68 per litre and Rs 7 per litre. Imposition of petroleum levy on petrol stands at Rs 37.50 per litre and on diesel at Rs 7.50 per litre.
