Pak-Turkiye ties aim to promote peace, ward off aggression: PM

ISTANBUL: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said defence collaboration between Pakistan and Türkiye for construction of MILGEM class warships is aimed at promoting peace and warding off aggression.

Addressing launching ceremony of third of fourth MILGEM class corvette, PNS Khaibar for Pakistan Navy at Istanbul Naval Shipyard he highlighted exceptional nature of Pakistan-Türkiye relations and historic tradition of supporting each other during times of trial and tribulation.

Tracing glorious history of deep rooted bilateral fraternal ties, he called for further strengthening of joint defence production capabilities. He said that Pakistan-Türkiye strategic partnership is a source of stability for entire region.

He greatly appreciated President Erdogan’s personally supervising assistance effort from Türkiye to Pakistan in aftermath of devastating floods in Pakistan. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that two countries share strategic relationship as they mark 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations this year. He highlighted that Turkish people have not forgotten assistance from Muslims of subcontinent during its national struggle. President termed defence cooperation an important pillar of bilateral relationship and congratulated everyone involved in successful execution of MILGEM project.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while citing huge potential in field of alternate energy in both countries, called for Turkiye and Pakistan to join hands for production of solar, wind and hydel energy to cut carbon emission and open up new avenues of investment cooperation.
