Pakistan's economy in safe zone: Finance Minister

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan's economy is in safe zone as annual current account deficit decreased to 2.56 billion dollars in last fiscal year. In video message, he pointed out that current account deficit was 17.4 billion dollars deficit in financial year 2021-22.
Ishaq Dar said that our current account remained surplus over last four months with surplus of 334 million dollars recorded in June. Ishaq Dar also congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, State Bank authorities and his economic team for timely managing all external payments and devising prudent policies which helped decrease current account deficit. Minister also expressed to take foreign exchange reserves of country to tune of 14 billion dollars.
Current account surplus (CAS) for June 2023 stood at $ 334 million against CAD of $ 2,321 million in corresponding month last year. On other hand, CAD for 2022-23 remained at $ 2.56 billion which was just 14.65 percent of $ 17.48 billion for 2021-22.
