Pakistan will not default, assures Miftah

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said that Pakistan is out of default risk and government increased petroleum prices under International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Miftah said that Pakistan reduced its imports by 35 percent to $ 5 billion in July, which will in turn help check nation’s current-account gap, adding that spike in domestic energy prices by 50 percent to win IMF bailout.
Meanwhile, Miftah Ismail reiterated government’s resolve to take every required step to facilitate and support business community.
A delegation of Markazi Tanzeem-e-Tajaran Pakistan delegation apprised Finance Minister of issues being faced by business community especially related to taxation on electricity bill and requested him to resolve their issues.
Finance Minister listened their apprehensions regarding taxation and assured them that their issues will be resolved.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, he said government is taking steps to satisfy small traders with new tax law.
