Pakistan, Togo enjoy trustworthy relations: Defence Minister

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Pakistan and Republic of Togo enjoy longstanding and cordial ties, which were based on mutual trust and common interests. Talking to Foreign Minister of Republic of Togo Robert Dussey, who called on him Khawaja Asif said Pakistan attached high importance to its trustworthy and long-lasting ties with African country. Defence Minister highlighted Pakistan's desire to enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation with Togo as part of government's vision for enhancing engagement with African Continent.
Khawaja Asif appreciated Togo's contributions to promoting peace and stability on important multilateral forums, such as United Nations, African Union and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Both sides agreed to strengthen legal and institutional framework for high-level bilateral political engagement and people-to-people exchanges and to closely coordinate in UN and OIC.
Khawaja Asif underlined importance of bilateral relations based on common values, aspirations and mutual respect. He praised traditional coordination of positions and mutual support for each other's candidatures as international fora. During meeting, Foreign Minister Dussey underscored Togo's desire for deepening engagement with Pakistan, particularly in trade, investment and security domains. He appreciated support provided by Pakistan for capacity building of Togolese diplomats and hoped that similar training opportunities could also be provided to Togo's security personnel in future.
