Islamabad: Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani reiterated country’s commitment to continue ongoing engagement with Afghanistan. His remarks came after meeting with Afghan province Kandahar’s Governor Mullah Shirin here.
“Reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continued engagement and mutually beneficial ties with Afghanistan. Also stressed imperatives of addressing all issues to harness full potential for trade and connectivity,” Jilani wrote on his X account.
Jilani’s meeting with senior Afghan official who also serves as country’s deputy of strategic intelligence of defence ministry comes in backdrop of an alarming increase in terror incidents in Pakistan, which, as per Annual Security Report released by Centre for Research and Security Studies saw more than 1,500 Pakistanis being killed in 789 terror attacks and counter-terrorism operations in 2023.
Pakistan has time again called on Taliban-led Afghan administration to prevent its soil from being used against Pakistan and take effective measures against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other banned militant organisations that are involved in heinous attacks on civilians and security forces inside Pakistan, an allegation vehemently denied by Afghan side.
Earlier in day, Afghan Embassy in Islamabad had said that sixth round of Afghanistan-Pakistan Joint Coordination Committee was to include discussions pertaining to “Resolution of potential conflicts along Durand Line and establishment of essential facilities for people on both sides.”
