Pakistan stands with Syrian brethren in difficult time: NA Speaker

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf held meeting with Ambassador of Syria to Pakistan Ramez Alraee here to offer condolences and support in aftermath of devastating earthquake that has impacted Syria.

Speaker expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Syrian people and conveyed solidarity of Pakistani people in face of this tragedy. He said people of Pakistan stand with their Syrian brothers and sisters in this difficult time and we will do everything in our power to support them. He said loss of life and destruction caused by earthquake is truly heartbreaking and our thoughts and prayers are with affected families.

Speaker extended prayers for Syrian Prime Minister and his family who were hurt badly by recent quake. Ambassador Ramez Alraee expressed his gratitude for outpouring of support and condolences from government and people of Pakistan.

He took opportunity to thank Pakistan for its support during 1973 war. While commenting on overall situation of country, he acknowledged improvement in security situation in recent years but expressed his discomfort over international sanctions impacting progress and development of Syria.
