Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq expressed concerns on Wednesday about the involvement of a significant number of Afghan nationals living illegally in Pakistan in acts of terrorism and criminal activities. He emphasized that Pakistan had the authority to deport these illegal migrants.
The recent provocative statements made by Afghan nationals regarding Islamabad's decision to repatriate illegal foreign residents have been linked to a notable increase in terrorism within Pakistan, as stated by Kakar.
During a press conference in the capital city, Kakar called on Kabul to extradite individuals responsible for acts of terrorism in Pakistan and stressed that Pakistan had already provided a list of wanted terrorists to the Afghan Taliban. However, he expressed disappointment in the Afghan interim government's lack of action against groups involved in cross-border terrorism, specifically referring to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and others.
Kakar underscored that taking action against the TTP was in the best interest of both nations and expressed regret over the threatening statements issued by Kabul. When Kabul did not respond positively, Pakistan took measures to address the situation, such as the deportation of illegal foreign residents, and the inflammatory statements from Afghan officials hindered amicable resolution.
Kakar also highlighted that Pakistan had witnessed a 60% increase in terrorist activities following the rise of the Afghan interim government, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the sovereignty of both neighboring countries.
The caretaker prime minister asserted Pakistan's right to address internal affairs and mentioned efforts to draw international attention to the issue, including a United Nations report acknowledging the role of Afghanistan-based terrorists in acts of terrorism within Pakistan.
